Since August 2002 when he was hired to head Hood's athletic department, Gib Romaine has been the driving force in reshaping Blazer athletics.

He has overseen the College's move to coeducational status by adding eight men's sports and three women's sports to bring the total offerings to 19-more than doubling the amount since his arrival. He has also hired 11 new head coaches and has been instrumental in enhancing the Blazers' athletic image.

Romaine has also been a key player in Hood's move to the highly competitive Capital Athletic Conference beginning with select sports in the 2006-07 academic year. All of Hood's 19 varsity programs became members of the CAC in 2007-08.

Romaine served as president of the Maryland Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (MACDA) from 2007-09. Additionally, he served as the vice-president of the Capital Athletic Conference Board of Directors from January 2008-January 2010 before assuming a two-year term as president through January 2012.

Romaine, who has held many coaching and administrative positions at several institutions, including Kansas State University, the University of Maryland and Mount St. Mary's University, through the years, has brought a well-informed approach to collegiate athletics to Hood-all of which are paying off. The Blazers have won 11 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference titles and have made three NCAA Tournament appearances since 2003. Hood teams have also stepped up their non-conference schedules to include many of the premier NCAA Division III colleges throughout the mid-Atlantic.

Romaine began his coaching career at Mansfield University as an assistant football coach for two years before moving on to Kansas State where he served for four years. Following his stint with the Wildcats, Romaine moved on to the University of Maryland. He spent 24 years there, including 13 as an assistant football coach, playing a key role during a flourishing era for the Terrapins.

He coached under highly successful coaches Jerry Claiborne and Bobby Ross-for whom he served as the defensive coordinator-and helped the Terrapins go to 11 bowl games and win six Atlantic Coast Conference championships.

After his time on the sidelines, Romaine moved into administration and served nine years in fundraising and two years in facilities management at Maryland. Prior to coming to Hood, he served as an assistant director of athletics for development at Mount St. Mary's.

Romaine earned a master's degree in health education from Kansas State and a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg University.

Romaine will be one of eight distinguised honorees inducted into the Port Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame in October 2010.

He and his wife Marcia have two children, Jonathan and Catherine, and reside in Waynesboro, Pa. Catherine and her husband, Howard, are the proud parents of Lilah Rose, born October 2009.
