FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Alex Bodine of the men’s swim team and freshman Shannon McHale of the women's swim team have been tabbed Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 7.
Bodine, who went to Urbana right here in Frederick, had a very good meet over the weekend and helped Hood to a split in the double dual at Albright over the weekend. Bodine won the 100 fly in illustrious fashion, as he set a school record in the process with a time of 55.09. Bodine set the record by 0.11 seconds and this was also the third time this season that he has won the 100 fly. Bodine also registered his fourth victory of the season in the 100 back, swimming to a time of 55.92. Bodine also came in second place in the 200 back in what was a very productive day for the sophomore.
Originally from Hauppauge, N.Y., McHale had a solid meet picking up two victories for the squad over the weekend. She picked up her third win of the season in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.38. McHale was also victorious in the 200 back, with a time of 2:17.27. This was the fourth time McHale captured first place in the 200 back this season, while also picking up two second place finishes in relays on the day.
The Hood men will celebrate senior day this Saturday when they host their only home meet of the season against Frostburg State University at 2 p.m. Andrew Bodine and Lucas Netter will be recognized prior to the meet. The women have a meet this Wednesday when they take on Notre Dame (Md.) University at 7 p.m. before returning home for the Forstburg meet Saturday.
