Equestrian Club Competes at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.--The Hood College equestrian club/team participated in two back-to-back Intercollegiate Horse Show Association shows on the weekend of February 18 and 19.

These IHSA shows were hosted by the University of Mary Washington equestrian team at their Hazelwild Equestrian Center in Fredericksburg, Va.

On Saturday, Katie Geiger, a senior and the Hood team captain, placed in her novice over fences class and pointed out of that division. By pointing out, she has qualified for the Zone 4, Region I IHSA competition at the novice level and will compete in the next higher division over fences for the rest of the season. Geiger made her intermediate over fences debut at the Sunday show and rode well through a higher and more technical jumping course. She also placed second in novice on the flat at the Saturday show.

Emily Yeager earned two points in the advanced walk-trot-canter division with a very good performance in a class where all of the competitors rode well and there were no mistakes. Her fourth-place finish was a credit to her good riding.

Augusta Spandler earned fifth in the novice on the flat division placing her within one point of pointing out of this division. She will compete again on March 31 at the last regular season show held at Goucher College. If she places, Spandler will also go to regional competition.

Regional competition for Zone 4, Region 1 will be held on April 1 and hosted by the University of Mary Washington at Fredericksburg, Va.
