Kelley Nets First Career Goal in Loss to Sweet Briar

Lacey Kelley

SWEET BRIAR, Va.--The Hood College field hockey team (1-4, 0-1 CAC) lost to the Sweet Briar College Vixens (5-4, 0-3 ODAC) Saturday by the score of 5-1.

The Vixens offense put Hood’s defense to the test attempting 42 shots on goal for the game. The Blazer defense did an excellent job in the first half only allowing one goal on 21 shot attempts. Lacey Kelley scored her first career goal and the lone goal for the Blazers 49:06 into the game to knot the score at 1-1. The Sweet Briar attack finally wore down the Blazers remarkable defense, as the Vixens broke through with four goals in the final period.

Senior goalie Jen Lacy anchored the defense with 21 saves, marking the 10th-highest single game total by any Hood goalie. Crystal Parker, Patsy Davis and Amanda Blakeslee also contributed to the defensive effort with one defensive save each.

Hood returns to action Monday at Wilson College for a 4 p.m. nonconference game.
