Hood Improves to 2-0 with Shutout against Bay Path

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood field hockey tied the school record for shots in a game with 44, as the Blazers defeated Bay Path College 7-0.

Hood College jumped out to a quick lead in the first half after a hard shot from Tayler Piper (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) was redirected by Alysa Billeter (Damascus, Md. / Damascus) who scored her first goal at 11:16.  Four and a half minutes later, Emily Richardson (Sykesville, Md. / Century) earned a penalty shot and scored her first goal of the season, bringing the Blazers to a 2-0 lead.

During the last two minutes of the half, Billeter rebounded her own shot and scored her second goal of the game.  This was her first career multi-goal game, and she gave the team a 3-0 lead to finish the first half.

The Blazers kept the strong momentum going into the second half where they scored another four goals.  This was the highest number of goals for the team since last year against Cedar Crest.

Rachel Marlow (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) started the scoring in the second half with an early goal off of a rebound.  Following her lead was Denise Obi (Newark, Del. / Glasgow), netting her first career goal with an assist from Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic).  Quickly after Obi's goal, a rebound to Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) resulted in another goal for the Blazers, extending the lead to 6-0 during the 51st minute.

Topping off the second half with the final goal, Briscoe crossed the ball to April Ganz (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley), who scored her first career goal.

The Wildcats' goalie Anna Meyer made 24 saves throughout the game.

These combined wins bring the Blazers to their first 2-0 start since 2005.  It also marked the first back-to-back shutouts since the 2006 season against Rosemont and Mary Baldwin. Those two wins in 2006 were also the last time Hood tallied 10 goals over a two-game stretch.

The team will play Shenandoah on September 3 for the first away game of the season.
