Hood Board of Trustees Approves Groundbreaking for New Athletic Facility

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College President Ronald Volpe announced Friday night that the college’s board of trustees has approved the building of an on-campus athletic facility adjacent to Hood's one-year-old turf field.

Fund-raising efforts for the facility are still ongoing, but the College has sufficient financial support to break ground on the new facility in January. The building is expected to be completed in time for the 2011-12 basketball season.

The athletic center is the second phase of the college’s plan to upgrade its athletic facilities. The first phase was completed last fall with the installation of the new turf field for Hood’s soccer, field hockey and lacrosse teams. This new facility, which will house the College’s intercollegiate, recreational and intramural activities, will be located adjacent to the turf field and will be the home for Hood's men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams.

The cost for this new facility is estimated at $8 to $10 million and the College is close to achieving its goal. The College’s office of institutional advancement continues to solicit naming gifts for this endeavor.
