Ryan Junghans Claims Hood College Athlete of the Week Award
FREDERICK, Md.--Senior guard Ryan Junghans of the men's basketball team has been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 23.
Junghans also earned Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week and PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player of the Week honors as well.
The native of Derwood, Md., led the Blazers to the Rinso
Marquette Tournament title at Lebanon Valley College last weekend
averaging a team-best 22 points per game. He netted game-highs in
scoring in victories over New Jersey City University (25) and the
host Dutchmen (19) as Hood captured its second tournament title in
three years. Junghans, who was selected as the tournament's most
valuable player, was also the first non-LVC player to earn
all-tournament honors twice (also in 2006).
In addition to shooting 57.1 percent from the floor, Junghans also
contributed eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals
while draining seven three-pointers and sinking a perfect 13-of-13
from the foul line.
A starter in all four games this season, Junghans currently leads
the team with a 17.8 scoring average and also ranks first in
three-pointers made (12), free throw percentage (.905) and minutes
played (33.5).
Hood (3-1), winners of three straight, opens its home slate
Tuesday hosting Shenandoah University at 8 p.m. at Gov. Thomas
Johnson High School in the second game of a doubleheader with the
Blazer women's team.
