Hood Men Fall to John Carroll, 92-68

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.--The Hood College men's basketball team (3-5) lost to the John Carroll University Blue Streaks (5-4), 92-68, in the opening round of the Car Coop/Weenie Miller Memorial Holiday Hoops Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney College Monday evening.

The first half featured seven ties and 12 lead changes within the first 13:48. Tim Abercrombie scored five points in a 7-0 run which gave the Blazers their largest lead of the stanza, 28-22, with just under eight minutes to play. But the Blue Streaks turned a six-point deficit into a nine-point advantage with a 19-4 run over a span of 3:33 and led by 13 at halftime (54-41).

John Carroll did not relinquish its double-figure lead in the second half and went on to advance to the championship game against the host Tigers.

J'Air Brady paced the Blazers with a game-high 20 points and three assists while Abercrombie finished with 10 points. Tyler Snoots connected on all three field goal attempts off the bench for seven points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Rian McHenry made his first appearance of the season after recovering from an injury, chipping in four points and three rebounds in 13 minutes of work.

A total of 16 John Carroll players saw court time, 12 of whom made it into the scoring column. Rudy Kirbus led five players in double figures with 13 points, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. The Blue Streaks drilled 10 triples in the contest and outrebounded the Blazers 40-29.

Hood will look to snap its four-game losing skid Tuesday against the LaGrange College Panthers in the consolation game at 2 p.m.
