Six Blazers Net Double Figures in Key CAC Win Over Stevenson
EMMITSBURG, Md.--Junior J'Air Brady scored a game-high 20 points to lead six players in double figures as the Hood College men's basketball team (9-15, 6-9 CAC) held on to defeat the Stevenson University Mustangs (6-18, 5-10 CAC) by a count of 92-81 Wednesday evening in a game played at Mount St. Mary's University.
Clinging to a 7-6 lead, the Blazers got hot from the perimeter and used a 13-2 run to go up 20-8 with 13:25 remaining. Herb Bowen buried a pair of three-pointers in the spurt. Hood led by as many as 20 in the stanza after consecutive layups by Tyler Snoots gave the Blazers a 33-13 lead with 8:41 to go. Hood took a 46-33 advantage into the lockerroom.
Hood would not relinquish its lead in the second half, though the Mustangs did close to within six, 84-78, with 1:58 to play in regulation. But the Blazers nailed 14-of-18 from the foul line down the stretch to ice the victory and keep their CAC playoff hopes alive.
Brady connected on 5-of-10 from the field and 10-of-12 from the stripe for a game-high 20 points. Snoots finished a point shy of his career-high with 17 and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season while Brenden Straughn notched his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 boards as well.
Bowen eclipsed his career-high in scoring with 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench while Jeff Willison netted 11 points and Chris Leggett finished with 10.
Greg Woody paced the Mustangs with 18 points in the losing cause.
Hood closes out the regular season Saturday at Salisbury University. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
