Two FCC Players Commit to Hood Basketball

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College head men's basketball coach Tom Dickman has added two transfer students from Frederick Community College's Region XX championship team to his 2010-11 roster.

Luis Cotto, a 5-7 point guard who played his high school ball at Tuscarora, and LaVar Rich, a 6-5 post player who attended Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Va., will both transfer to Hood for the 2010-11 basketball season.

"These two players are very significant recruits for us," said Dickman. "They have successful college basketball experience and they will have an immediate impact on our team. They are two very solid additions to our program."

Cotto was an all-area first team selection for the Titans while Rich appeared in all 27 games for the Cougars and was one of the squad's top rebounders last season.

"Luis is the type of point guard who makes those around him better," said Dickman. "He will enhance our transition game and our defensive pressure immediately.

"LaVar is a high-energy guy," Dickman continued. "He is a very good defender, rebounder and an underrated scorer. We feel that his best basketball is still ahead of him."

Cotto joins guards Ricky Johnson (Mt. Carmel), Ryan Hutchings (Sacred Heart), Derek Szabados (Catoctin), Justin Bowens (Tuscarora) and De'Ante Cannon (DuVal) while Rich joins forwards Cameron Cook (Calvert Hall) and Zach Lynch (Arundel) as part of Dickman's recruiting class for the upcoming season.
