Erik Thomas ’16, a native of Glenn Dale, Maryland, is in his fourth season as a student-assistant coach for the Blazers.
In 2015-16, the Blazers battled injuries to finish 13-12 overall, the program's 11th .500 or better record in its 13-year history. Davon Hill was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commowealth team, was a CoSIDA Academic All-District pick for the second straight year and was named the MAC Men's Basketball Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Three players were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court and the Blazers earned an NABC Academic Excellence Award for their work in the classroom.
Thomas began his basketball career with the Blazers in the fall of 2012 as an incoming freshman from Bishop McNamara High School. Knee injuries derailed Thomas’ playing career, but he did not want to walk away from the sport that he loved.
The next fall, Thomas joined Hood's coaching staff, providing leadership, energy, and mentorship to his former teammates.
His role expanded in March 2015, as Thomas' responsibilities include day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program, recruiting, on-court instruction and player development.
'Coach E' is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management with a concentration in accounting at Hood College.
