YORK, Pa.--The Hood College men's lacrosse team (3-11, 1-5 CAC) dropped an 11-5 Capital Athletic Conference decision to the York College (Pa.) Spartans (7-5, 3-3 CAC) Wednesday afternoon in its final road game of the regular season.
Joey O'Hara scored twice for Hood while Alex Engler, Mike Higgs and Michael Gallion added single tallies. Joseph McCulloh made the start in the net and registered nine saves in the first 29:13 while Nick Reinberg and Cody Hass combined to make nine stops in relief.
The game remained scoreless until the final six minutes of the opening quarter when the Spartans reeled off four unanswered goals. Tyler Hutson had a hand in three of them, scoring twice and assisting on another. Engler got the Blazers on the board when he notched his fifth goal of the spring with 6:50 left in the second stanza. But B.J. Blaker and Hutson tacked on two more scores before intermission and the Blazers trailed 6-1 at halftime.
The Blazers were held scoreless in the third quarter but enjoyed their most productive quarter in the fourth. O'Hara netted his seventh and eighth goals of the season while Higgs registered his fourth off a feed from James Weger. Additionally, Gallion ripped his first score of the year and seventh of his career with eight seconds left on the clock for the final margin.
Weger had a solid game on defense, forcing five Spartan turnovers and collecting seven ground balls. Hood won the overall ground ball battle, 40-36, while Randolph Clark won six face-offs and Hector Montoya was credited with a pair of wins in the "X".
Hood concludes the 2012 regular season with a three-game homestand beginning Saturday when the Blazers host CAC rival Mary Washington at 1 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
