Blazers Can't Solve Pride

Brett Humphreys

CHESTER, Pa. - A five-goal third period was too much for Hood College to overcome in a 10-3 Commonwealth Conference loss against Widener.

Tim Taylor scored three first half goals and Marc La Vine added another as the Pride took a 4-0 advantage into halftime.

Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou) cut the deficit to three with an unassisted goal just over four minutes into the third period, his ninth of the year. Widener answered with two goals less than a minute apart to push the lead to 6-1. Nick Striebeck scored at 7:11 and Taylor scored his fourth at 6:34. The Pride would score three more times before the end of the quarter to take a 9-1 lead.

Less than two minutes into the final quarter Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley) scored his 10th goal of the season to stop the Widener run. With 8:30 remaining in the game, Brett Humphreys (Newark, Del. / Sanford) scored his team leading 12th goal of the year to cut the deficit to 9-3. La Vine wrapped up the scoring with a goal at 3:02 of the quarter.

James Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) led the Blazers with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Joseph McCulloh (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) went the distance in goal, making 15 saves.

Taylor (5g) and La Vine (2g, 3a) led the offensive charge for Widener. Mac Nestler played the first 57:55 in net and made six saves, Tyler McClary did not face any shots in the last 2:05 of action.

Hood begins a three-game homestand with a game against Susquehanna on April 2 at 3:30.
