Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team fell in a 12-9 final at Arcadia in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest. 

Nick Druelinger (Joppa, Md. / John Carroll), Eddie Somerville (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point), Alex Villegas (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) and Grayson Zubradt (Elmhurst, Ill. / York Community) had two goals each for the Blazers. Somerville added an assist and two caused turnovers. Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) had nine ground balls and went 18-of-25 on face offs. John Hoffman (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) made four saves.

The Blazers tied the score at 9-9 in the fourth quarter on a goal by Villegas with 9:19 left, but Jay Horner assisted on two goals to start a late three-goal run by the Knights to take control. 

Trailing 5-3 at halftime, goals by Zubradt and Zachary Kooser (Ferndale, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) tied the score with 13:09 left in the quarter. After Arcadia took an 8-5 lead, back-to-back goals by Druelinger pulled the Blazers within one entering the fourth period. 

Somerville tied things at 8-8 early in the fourth and, after Chris Jacovino gave the Knights the lead, Villegas tied it at 9-9.

Jacovino led all players with four goals and two assists in the game. Casey Fayan caused seven turnovers and had four ground balls. AJ Beck stopped 11 shots in goal. 

Zubradt became the first Blazer with a 40-point season with his second goal of the day. Somerville moved into a tie for fifth in Hood's record book with 30 points on the year. Kauffman joined Randolph Clark (twice) as the only players in school history with at least 100 ground balls in a season. Villegas pulled within four points of the career scoring record with 84 points.
