Pioneers Nip Men's Soccer, 2-1

TAKOMA PARK, Md.--Se-Eun Park's goal in the 74th minute snapped a 1-1 tie and proved to be the game-winner for Columbia Union College in a 2-1 victory over the Hood College men's soccer team (4-8) Thursday in nonconference action.

The Pioneers and Blazers battled through a scoreless first half as sophomore keeper Shawn Fernholz recorded seven saves in the first 45 minutes without allowing a goal. Davion Foster also registered five stops for the Pioneers.

In the second half, Columbia Union was quick to get on the board when Nathaniel Oyefeso scored off a feed from Edward Kamara just 1:32 into the second stanza. But the Blazers netted the equalizer in the 60th minute when junior Tom Sprague found senior Shane McCarrick off a corner kick to knot the game at a goal apiece. It was McCarrick's first tally of the season and fifth of his career.

But the Pioneers continued to pepper reserve keeper Mike Hardman and outshot Hood 28-15 overall. Oyefeso had a hand in the game-winner as he fed Park for the score at the 73:29 mark to secure the victory for the hosts. Hardman did finish with three saves on the day.

Hood returns to conference play Saturday at Villa Julie College at 1 p.m.
