ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Hood College men's soccer team swept the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth's player of the week awards with Clay Smith earning the offensive prize and Danny Castillo following suit on the defensive end.
Smith recorded nine points on four goals and an assist to lead the Blazers to a 2-0-1 week. Smith scored at least one goal in all three matches to run his goal-scoring streak to four matches. The junior scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 win over Cairn. Smith assisted on the game-winner and then scored late in a 3-0 win over Goucher to end the week. He scored Hood's only goal in a 1-1 draw with Randolph to begin the week.
Castillo led the Blazers to a 2-0-1 week while recording a shutout, nine saves, allowing just one goal and even scoring a goal in 245 minutes of action. Castillo made three saves and allowed no goals in 65 minutes of action in a 1-1 draw with Randolph to begin the week. He then made two saves in a 3-1 win over Cairn. Castillo finished the week with four saves and scored a goal in a 3-0 win over Goucher. His goal was on a penalty kick.
Hood, 2-1-1 on the year, hosts Juniata on Wednesday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
