Blazer Men Shine at Washington & Jefferson Invitational

WASHINGTON, Pa.--The Hood College men's track and field team had a solid showing at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational Saturday.
The Blazers picked up points in the steeplechase as William
Andrews finished eighth in 10:38.55 with a Capital Athletic
Conference qualifying mark. Nick Manning also ducked under the
standard with a 10:50.98 finish.
Both Hood relay teams picked up points. The 4x100 squad of
Ryan Jenkins, Tomilayo Komolafe, Mike Cahill and Ola Komolafe
finished sixth. Of more importance to the program, the 4x400 with
the same four, configured differently, ran 3:31.79 to break the
school record and hit the Penn Relays qualifying standard while
finishing eighth.
"This is a signficant milestone in the program," said head coach
Brent Ayer. "This is just our second varsity year and we intend to
take the student-athletes to Penn to soak in the atmosphere at the
top."
Blair Ames continue to roll, as he lowered his school record 1500
by five seconds to 4:12.48, another CAC qualifying mark. He
also reduced the school mark in the 800 to 2:03.83.
"A big time negative split for Blair," said Ayer. "He was
the CAC Athlete of the Week two weeks ago and he just keeps on
rolling."
Justin Everett extended two of his jumping school marks to 20' 1
3/4" in the long jump and 40' 2 1/2" in the triple jump. Both were
good for ninth place, one away from points. The final school record
of the day was set by Matt Haynes who threw 32' 11 3/4" in the
shot.
In addition to the school records, a number of personal records
were set: Matt Haynes (discus), Jeff Lipinski (javelin), Tomilayo
Komolafe (400), Brendan Greenless (1500), David McDuffie (400)
and Mattia Mabellini (1:05.96).
The Blazers return to action next weekend at the West Chester University Invitational.
