Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at CAC Championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.--The Hood College men's cross country team placed fourth of six complete teams competing at the Capital Athletic Conference championships Saturday hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Junior William Andrews' 22nd place finish (29:24.70) out of 62
competitors matched his result of last season’s CAC
championship, which stands as the highest Hood male finish in
program history. Senior Nick Manning was 33rd, junior Brendan
Greenlees was 40th, senior Mattia Mabellini took 44th and junior
Blair Ames rounded out the scoring in 50th place overall.
Also competing for Hood were David McDuffie, Ola Komolafe, Andrew
Weiss and Will Emory.
"We just weren’t quite able to get it untracked today," said
head coach Brent Ayer. "William was injured for much of September.
We have him back in healthy condition, but probably not in time to
get a peak out of him in the fall. The timing was rough. He has
beaten some of the runners who received all-conference designation
today. Mattia made a gritty effort. He usually runs fifth man, but
we asked him to stick with Brendan and he gave him a good run.
"While we matched last year’s team finish, we need to begin
the business of getting closer to the top three teams in this
league."
Salisbury University won the team title by 16 points over runner-up and host Mary Washington. Frank DeVar of Mary Washington set the pace, completing the course in 26:34.60, 32 seconds ahead of second place finisher Zack Dickerson of Salisbury.
