FREDERICK, Md.--Senior pitcher/third baseman Tamara Maggard of
the Hood College softball team has been named the Atlantic Women's
Colleges Conference Player of the Week as announced by conference
officials Tuesday.
A native of Baltimore, Maggard played a key role in Hood's sweep of
Mary Baldwin College which clinched the regular season conference
championship for the Blazers.
She picked up her first pitching victory of the season Thursday
when she tossed a complete game against the Squirrels. She allowed
just four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

more and stealing a pair of bases. She also handled all 13 chances
in the field cleanly.
A starter in all 28 games this spring, Maggard is batting .263 with
10 RBI and leads the team with 21 runs scored.
The Blazers have one regular season contest remaining at Frostburg
State University Tuesday. Hood will then travel to Chambersburg,
Pa., Saturday for the AWCC tournament. The Blazers are the top seed
in the tournament and will take on Wells College in the opening
