FREDERICK, Md.--Six members of the Hood College softball team
were named to the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference all-star
team as announced by league officials Thursday.
Sophomore pitcher Jamie Gardner was chosen by the AWCC head
coaches as the AWCC Co-Most Outstanding Player and was one of four
Blazers named to the all-league first team. Senior first baseman
Christine Harvey, senior pitcher/third baseman/outfielder Tamara
Maggard and sophomore shortstop Sara Wastler joined Gardner on the
first team while sophomores Jess Krietz and Kara Robert garnered
honorable mention recognition.
Gardner, who shared MOP honors with Wilson College senior
shortstop Jennifer Liggett, enjoyed another spectacular season in
the circle, setting several school records in the process. A

homeruns (2) and doubles (8). She collected a basehit in both of
Hood's NCAA tournament games. In AWCC games, Harvey hit .471 and
drove in eight of her 14 runs. Harvey also registered a .978
fielding percentage at first.
Maggard, a three-sport athlete at Hood, played a variety of
positions for the Blazers, including infield, outfield and in the
circle. She started all 35 games and hit .247 with 11 RBI and a
team-high 21 runs scored. Maggard also earned a complete-game
pitching victory against Mary Baldwin to clinch Hood's second
straight AWCC regular season championship.
Wastler, who also plays basketball at Hood, was Hood's starting
shortstop in all 35 games and showed a .284 batting average. She
collected a team-best 31 basehits, drove in 10 runs and had nine
multi-hit games.
Krietz started 33 contests behind the plate. She hit .219 with a
pair of homeruns and 10 RBI.

squad with 26 basehits. She batted .260 and tied for the team lead
with eight doubles and 14 RBI.

Newcomer of the Year and Wells College head coach Kim Faust was
tabbed AWCC Coach of the Year.
In addition to Hood's six selections to the all-conference team,
junior outfielder Jamie Bussey was named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District II Third Team. Bussey, who earned her second
straight appointment to the all-academic third team, started 34 of
Hood's 35 games and sported a .245 average with 10 RBI.
Hood finished the 2007 season with a record of 14-21 and won its
second straight AWCC regular season and tournament championships.
