Gardner Tabbed CAC Softball Player of the Week

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior pitcher Jamie Gardner has been named the Capital Athletic Conference softball player of the week for the week ending March 16.
A native of Eldersburg, Md., Gardner pitched 47 innings with 29
strikeouts to help Hood win six of its last eight games. Gardner
also finished the week with two homers, six runs, six RBI, and had
three multi-hit games.
On Tuesday, Gardner led Hood to its first-ever CAC victory,
allowing one unearned run and collecting eight strikeouts as the
Blazers topped Wesley, 2-1. The following afternoon, Gardner
pitched her first shutout of the season and hit a home run in an
8-0 Hood win over Mt. Aloysius.
Then Friday, Gardner’s two-run homer propelled the Blazers
over CAC opponent Gallaudet, 6-5. Gardner wrapped up the week
helping Hood sweep Villa Julie Sunday, 3-2 in eight innings and
6-0. In the nightcap, she recorded her second shutout of the year
and scored a run.
This season, Gardner has started all 12 games for the Blazers and
is third on the team with a .364 batting average. At the mound,
Gardner has pitched 68.1 innings with 94 strikeouts and an earned
run average of 3.79.
Hood (7-5, 5-1 CAC) has won five in a row and returns to action Thursday hosting Penn State University Abington Thursday in a nonconference twinbill at 3 p.m.
