Ringley and Jones Named to All-CAC Softball Second Team

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior pitcher Bridgette Ringley and freshman catcher Brittni Jones of the Hood College softball team represented the Blazers on the all-Capital Athletic Conference softball second team, as announced by league officials this week.

Ringley, a native of Boonsboro, Md., has made 18 appearances this spring in the circle, including 16 starts, and owns a 3.38 earned run average. She has worked 95.1 innings and shows a record of 5-8. Ringley has collected 44 strikeouts on the season and went the distance in 11 of her 16 starts. She also has limited opposing hitters to just a .272 batting average, which ranks sixth in the CAC.

Among her highlights this season was a one-hit shutout over Wesley College on March 27, during which she fanned a season-high nine Wolverine batters. She also tossed three innings of scoreless relief against league rival Stevenson University to complete the series sweep and clinch a first round home playoff game for the Blazers.

Ringley has also contributed at the dish, registering 22 base hits including a pair of doubles to go along with 12 RBI and four runs scored. She has also drawn 10 walks and has struck out only seven times in 86 at-bats.

Jones made an immediate impact on the Blazers and the conference this season, becoming one of just four freshmen to garner all-conference recognition. The product of Randolph Henry High School in Drakes Branch, Va., started 35 of Hood's 36 games behind the plate and heading into the final two series of the season, ranks second on the team in RBI (15) and runs scored (23). Normally featured at the top of Hood's starting lineup, she is also Hood's top base stealer, swiping 13-of-14 on the season. Jones has amassed 28 base hits on the season, including six doubles and a team-best two triples, and has six multi-hit games to her credit.

Jones was also a steady defensive presence behind the plate, throwing out 18 opposing base stealers and picking off four more on the season. Her .954 fielding percentage was among the best on the team.

Jones drove in a career-best three runs twice on the season; the first coming in the opener against CAC foe Gallaudet University and the second on a bases-clearing double in the second game against Gettysburg College.

Hood (15-21), which finished third in the CAC regular season standings, has two home doubleheaders remaining, against nonleague foes Mt. Aloysius College Saturday at 1 p.m. and McDaniel College Monday at 3 p.m.
