Hood Women End Skid, Defeat Gallaudet, 69-56

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (4-16, 2-9 CAC) had four players in double figures as the Blazers ended an eight-game losing skid with a 69-56 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the Gallaudet University Bison (5-14, 0-10 CAC) Monday at Frederick Community College.

Hood registered its second CAC victory of the season and first home conference win. The victory improved the Blazers to 5-1 all-time against Gallaudet and sealed their season sweep over the Bison.

The Blazers chased a two-point deficit by the Bison for most of the first half, until tying the game at 24-24 with 6:13 remaining in the first half on a jumper by Allyson Lethbridge. Hood’s defense limited Gallaudet to just two field goals for the remainder of the half. Jessica Parrish and Jen Willison rallied with 10 points for Hood to finish the first half up 34-28.

The second half began with Hood scoring eight quick points which included back-to-back three-pointers from Lethbridge and Brianna Raithel. Hood outscored Gallaudet 13-3 in the first 4:33 of the second half.

Jessica Head then tallied Hood's next six straight points and finished the game with a career-high of eight. Hood posted its largest lead of the game (22) with 7:18 remaining and it was too late for Gallaudet, despite cutting the lead to 11 with 1:36 left in regulation.

Overall, Hood shot 44 percent from the field and forced 22 Bison turnovers.

Willison led all scorers with 20 points and almost notched a double-double with nine boards. Lethbridge added 16 points and six steals while Sara Wastler and Jessica Parrish both contributed 10 points. Wastler also became the fourth Hood women's basketball player ever to record 100 three-point field goals on a trey with seven minutes to go in the first half. Parrish also almost clinched a double-double, dishing a career-high nine assists.

Nukeitra Hayes led Gallaudet with 15 points and Ursa Rewolinski posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards while playing all 40 minutes.

The Blazers hit the road once again Wednesday to face St. Mary’s College (Md.) at 6 p.m.
