Hood Drops 78-48 Decision to Wesley on Senior Night
FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women’s basketball team (4-19, 2-12 CAC) lost to Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley College (13-9, 9-4 CAC), 78-48, Wednesday evening on Senior Night at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
The loss sealed Wesley's season sweep over Hood. The Wolverines jumped to a 20-point lead, 21-1, with 12:00 remaining in the first half, mostly attributed to five three pointers scored by four different Wolverines. Wesley entered the game ranked first among NCAA Division III schools for their perimeter shooting, averaging nine treys a game.
Hood started to find the basket within the last six minutes of
the first half, in part by Jen Willison’s six straight points
to ignite the Blazers. The half ended with a trio of three pointers
from the Wolverines, putting the Blazers down 42-16.
Sara Wastler came alive for the Blazers in the second half, burying
back-to-back treys and posting eight of her 11 points in the first
5:25 minutes. Wastler was credited with scoring all of the Blazers'
three pointers.
Hood posted better numbers in the second half, shooting 48.3% from the field, which bested Wesley’s second half statistics. Despite their efforts, Hood was unable to gain enough momentum to overcome the lengthy deficit.
Willison led the Blazers with 17 points and almost notched a double-double with nine boards. Jessica Parrish contributed 13 points and four assists and Wastler finished with 11 points and four assists.
The Wolverines had four players scoring in double digits and were led by Michele Mules’ 18 points. Angie Owens added 13 points, Latasha Torres had 12 points and Allison Beddia contributed 10 points for the Wolverines.
The Blazers complete their home schedule Wednesday against Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College) at Mount St. Mary’s University at 6 p.m. All fans are admitted free to this contest.
