Hood Women End Season With 71-63 Setback at Salisbury

Jessica Parrish
SALISBURY, Md.--Junior Jen Willison registered her 11th double-double of the season with team-highs of 22 points and 12 boards but it was not enough as the Hood College women's basketball team (4-21, 2-14 CAC) fell to the Salisbury University Sea Gulls (9-16, 9-7 CAC) Saturday in its regular season finale.
Willison got the Blazers on the board on Hood's first possession but the Sea Gulls countered with an 11-0 run over the next 3:31. Katharine Curran capped the run with a pair of free throws. Salisbury maintained the upperhand for the rest of the stanza but the Blazers gradually chipped away at the deficit.
Trailing 23-12 with 7:39 left in the first half, Hood outscored the Sea Gulls 11-3 over the next 5:23 to make it a one-possession game with a little more than two minutes to go before halftime. Curran put back a miss by Janay Johnson in the closing seconds to give the hosts a 30-23 edge at intermission.
Willison netted 10 of Hood's first 13 points to start the second half as the Blazers drew even with the Sea Gulls, 36-36, within the first 4:49. But Hood was unable to come up with the go-ahead bucket and the Sea Gulls slowly pulled away. Salisbury led by as many as 15 down the stretch and went on to win by eight.
Willison hit 9-of-17 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the foul line to pace the Blazers. Jessica Parrish and Allyson Lethbridge also reached double figures with 17 and 16 points, respectively. In the final game of her Hood career, Sara Wastler finished with five points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Salisbury's Curran had the hot hand, draining 11-of-16 from the floor, including five treys, for a game-high 31 points.
