Wolverines Trip Up Blazers, 79-41

DOVER, Del.--Despite senior Jen Willison's 29th career double-double, and second in as many games, the Hood College women's basketball team (4-15, 1-11 CAC) came up on the short end of a 79-41 Capital Athletic Conference decision to the Wesley College Wolverines (12-8, 7-5 CAC) Wednesday evening at Wentworth Gymnasium.

The Wolverines outscored the Blazers 17-5 in the first 7:18 and never surrendered their double-figure lead the rest of the way. The Wolverines picked off 21 steals on the night and turned the Blazers over 31 times.

Hood nearly matched Wesley on the glass, collecting 48 rebounds to Wesley's 50, but the Blazers struggled from the floor, connecting on just 28.6 percent of their field goal attempts.

Willison paced the Blazers on both ends of the court, scoring 12 points and corralling 12 boards. Willison leapfrogged Melissa Kelly '00 for fifth on Hood's career scoring chart, now with 1,268 points. She also jumped past Mandy South '02 and into third all-time with 805 career rebounds.

Dyanna Prater set season-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (6) and Stacey Jones notched a pair of season-highs with eight points and eight caroms. Additionally, Nalla Tejera scored the first point of her Blazer career when she made 1-of-2 from the foul line with 1:40 left in the first half. She also grabbed a season-high four rebounds and picked off her first career steal.

Hood's next game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, against Gallaudet University at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick. Due to anticipated inclement weather in the region this weekend, please check www.hoodahtletics.com for updates on the status of this contest.
