Blazers Downed by Alvernia, 15-2
READING, Pa.—The Hood College women's lacrosse team (3-8, 0-5 Commonwealth) was defeated 15-2 in conference action Saturday afternoon at the hands of the Crusaders of Alvernia University (6-5-1, 3-1 Commonwealth). Alvernia used a strong first half to seize control of the contest and Hood was never able to recover.
Sophomore attacker Brigid Ayer paced the Blazer attack with a goal and an assist for two points. It was Ayer's 13th goal of the season and she is now second on the team in season points with 19. Hood's second goal was put home by senior defender Kimi Brunot, which was her third goal of the season. The Crusaders were led by Allison Bainbridge and Alyssa Verillo, who scored four and three goals respectively.
Hood freshman goalkeeper Lauren Couch had a stellar day between the pipes making 16 saves, including 12 in the first stanza. Couch was constantly tested throughout, however the freshman came up with some highlight reel saves and played an adequate game. Alvernia's Vicki Kearn and Colleen Reiley combined for the win with Kearn making four saves on the afternoon.
The Blazers return to action this Wednesday when they hit the road to take on Notre Dame (Md.) in non-conference action. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
