Buhrman Selected as CAC Athlete of the Week

Rachelle Buhrman
FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore goalkeeper Rachelle Buhrman of the Hood College women's soccer team has been tabbed the Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2.
Buhrman was a force between the pipes last week, turning away 21 total shot attempts without surrendering a goal in three contests.
The native of Smithsburg, Md., played two scoreless first halves opposite the College of Notre Dame (Md.) and the University of Mary Washington to conclude the regular season. Then on Saturday, Buhrman turned away a career-best 16 shots against third-seeded Stevenson University, Hood's quarterfinal opponent in the CAC tournament. The Mustangs were unable to get one past Buhrman in 110 minutes of action, and the two teams engaged in a shootout to decide who would advance to the semifinal round.
Buhrman came up with three more huge saves on four Mustang penalty kicks, including a critical stop in the fourth round on freshman scoring sensation Stephanie Eyler.
For the season, Buhrman is fourth in the CAC in save percentage (.810) and fifth in goals-against average (1.40).
The sixth-seeded Blazers will travel to second-seeded St. Mary's College (Md.) Tuesday for a semifinal matchup at 2:30 p.m.
