Jordan Makes History as Women's Soccer Blanks Notre Dame (Md.), 3-0
BALTIMORE, Md.--The Hood College women's soccer team (4-2) defeated the College of Notre Dame (Md.) Gators (1-4), 3-0, Wednesday in nonleague action.
The Blazers drew first blood in the 35th minute when junior Cara Jordan netted an unassisted score into the lower left corner of the net for her team-leading fifth score of the fall.
Then less than three minutes later, Jordan's corner kick set up classmate Abby Dyjack, who knocked home her second goal of the season. Jordan collected her 15th career assist on that corner, giving her the distinction of becoming Hood's all-time leader in assists. She eclipsed former Blazer Tamara Maggard '07, who assisted on 14 goals in her four-year Hood career.
Freshman Kristen Byers recorded her first collegiate goal in the 68th minute off a rebound to round out the scoring. Sophomore Jessica Devine was credited with the assist on the score.
Hood dominated the pitch, recording 30 shots while limiting the Gators to a single attempt on the afternoon. Kirsten Cacciola, who spelled starter Rachelle Buhrman to start the second half, came up with the rejection on Kelsey Kempf's try.
CND's starting goalie Amanda Mckenney made 10 saves in the losing cause, while reserve keeper Mindy Daugherty turned away five Blazer shots in the final 22:28.
Hood looks to make it three in a row when it returns home Saturday to host Mt. Aloysius College at 1 p.m.
