FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Carlie Colella netted the first hat trick of her Blazer career Saturday in an 8-0 nonconference win for the Hood College women's soccer team (5-2) over visiting Mt. Aloysius College (0-7).
Hood scored early and often against the Mounties as the Blazers got on the board within the first 1:07 of the contest. Colella launched a corner kick to the foot of junior Cara Jordan in the box. Jordan converted for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Senior Nikki Antalffy then found the back of the net in the 16th minute when she dribbled past the keeper and drilled the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
Colella would go on to score consecutive goals just 36 seconds apart to push the Blazer lead to 4-0 with 15 minutes remaining in the half. Her first score glanced off the hands of keeper Jess Petrella and into the net. She then beat Petrella to her left on Hood's next possession for her fifth goal of the season.
Colella and three other Blazers contributed to the second half scoring. First it was sophomore Jessica Devine who booted in a one-timer from Jordan in the 49th minute. It was Devine's third goal of the season. Then Colella completed her hat trick off a feed from junior Abby Dyjack with just under 22 minutes to go in regulation. Dyjack later converted one of her own following a cross from freshman Becky Leathers. Freshman Jen Civick rounded out the scoring when she knocked in her second score of the fall on a one-timer from sophomore Jamie Bingaman in the 82nd minute.
Hood overwhelmed the Mounties, outshooting the visitors 55-1 and did not allow a shot on goal. Junior Rachelle Buhrman and sophomore Kirsten Cacciola split time in the net and combined for their fifth shutout of the season.
Winners of three straight and four of their last five, the Blazers continue their four-game homestand Tuesday hosting Washington College at 4:30 p.m.
