Michelle Leggieri Earns Academic All-District Honors

FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Michelle Leggieri of the Hood College
women's swim team has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA
Academic All-District II At-Large Third Team, as voted on by sports
information directors across the region.
The native of Frederick, Md., and first-year member of the swim
team was one of two graduating senior to earn summa cum laude
recognition at the 2009 commencement ceremony for her exemplary
academic achievement. A sprinter for the Blazers, her top times
included 27.32 in the 50 free, 59.92 in the 100 free, 2:13.16 in
the 200 free, 1:07.89 in the 100 back and 1:19.37 in the 100
breast. She owned the team's top times in the 50 free and was
second-fastest in the 100 free. She captured top honors in the 100
free twice and 50 free twice in dual meet action and was Hood's top
finisher at the Capital Athletic Conference championships in the
100 back and the 50 free. Earlier this month, she was also inducted
into the Chi Alpha Sigma national scholar-athlete honor
society.
To be nominated for academic all-district honors, a student-athlete
must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30
cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current
institution.
Leggieri was one of three CAC student-athletes to garner academic
all-district plaudits. Salisbury University's Lauren Correll
(forward, field hockey) was named to the second team and Stevenson
University's Cat Connelly (midfield, field hockey) was selected to
the first team.
The at-large teams are comprised of student-athletes from women's
bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, field hockey,
men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and
women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's
rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's
and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo
and wrestling.
