YORK, Pa.--The fourth-seeded Hood College women's tennis team (6-6) dropped a 6-3 decision to the fifth-seeded York College (Pa.) Spartans (5-9) Monday in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.

Stephanie Garrett, Caitlin Erickson and Laura Wanner all won their singles matches in straight sets to account for Hood's three points. Garrett downed Paige Doutrich at second singles, 6-4, 6-2, Erickson knocked off Stephanie Nelson at the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 6-0, and Wanner cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Caralyn Caruso at sixth singles.

York advances to the next round of the tournament to take on top-seeded Mary Washington Thursday.
