Women's Track & Field Wraps Up Spring Slate

YORK, Pa.--The Hood College track & field program completed
its third season as an NCAA program Saturday at the York Charity
Open. The non-scoring meet featured teams from Goucher, York and
Hood, as well as a number of former Capital Athletic Conference
athletes competing unattached.
Freshman Emma Arneson captured the title in the long jump, then
returned to lower her school record in the 100 meter hurdles to
17.21 in taking third. She also finished third in the 200 meters
and participated in Hood's winnng 4 x 100 relay.
Sophomore Kayla Murphy extended her school records in the hammer
(106' 2") and discus (87' 11"). Murphy finished third in both
events.
The third win of the day for the Blazers was recorded by Jessica
Parrish who took the 100 meters in 12.76. Parrish also anchored the
winning relay.
"Jess is the most decorated Hood athlete in our brief history with the Capital Athletic Conference," said head coach Brent Ayer. "She is considering doing graduate work at Hood and has eligibility left. Obviously, you are much stronger track & field team with the conference athlete-of-the-year on your side. Regardless, it is hard to deny the talent."
Other participants were Jessica Stanley and freshman Mollie
Widdowson. Widdowson completed her first college season by setting
personal bests in the 100 hurdles and at 200 meters.
All-CAC thrower Erica Hamor took second in the javelin and set a
new personal best in the discus.
Senior Amanda Kwiatkowski competed in her final meet in a Hood
College uniform. She set a new personal best in the 100 hurdles and
also competed in the high jump and 200 meters. "Amanda participated
in all 12 meets this season and I really appreciate her commitment
to the team," said Ayer.
In all, the Blazer women set 12 new school records this season,
and broke and re-broke many of those. "We're on the move," said
Ayer. "Two years ago at our conference championship, the Hood women
scored nine points. Last year, we scored 49, and this year 85. We
have almost completely re-written our record book and our
recruiting class looks strong."
