Starr McDavid Honored by AWCC
FREDERICK, Md.--Senior outside hitter Starr McDavid of the Hood College volleyball team has been selected as the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference "Player of the Week" for the week ending Oct. 22. This is the first time this fall that a Blazer volleyball player has earned this award.
A native of Largo, Md., McDavid helped the Blazers put together a season-best three-match win streak and secure a spot in the AWCC Tournament with 13 kills, 13 aces and 40 digs in three victories.
McDavid had five aces and 10 digs in Hood's first victory of the week over conference foe Trinity University. She was one kill away from a "double-double" with a season-high nine kills and 11 digs in the Blazers' second matchup with the Tigers.
McDavid's 19 digs opposite Salem College were one shy of her season-high and marked the third match in a row in which she reached double figures in digs. She also aced the Spirits seven times in that match.
Her 13 aces in this week's matches were more than she had amassed throughout the first 12 contests of the year.
McDavid has appeared in 16 of Hood's 17 matches this season and is third on the team in digs with 120. She is also fourth in aces (27) and sixth in kills (44).
Hood is currently 5-12 overall and in third place in the AWCC with a 3-5 league mark. The Blazers wrap up the regular season this weekend competing in a tri-match at Lynchburg University with the Hornets and the Mountain State University Cougars beginning at 1:30 p.m.
