Blazer Volleyball Splits Triangular with Goucher, Rutgers-Newark


TOWSON, Md.--Senior Ashley Bryan combined for 25 kills in two matches as the Hood College volleyball team (4-22) split a triangular Saturday, falling 3-1 (30-28, 25-30, 24-30, 17-30) to Goucher College before rallying to defeat Rutgers-Newark, 3-1 (30-10, 19-30, 30-25, 30-21).

Bryan led the offense in both contests, smacking nine kills against Goucher and 16 against Rutgers-Newark. She also posted six block assists against the Gophers, while Kristan Hawkins tallied four blocks and Lindsey Nagy had a pair. Kristina Straub notched a double-double with 10 assists and 12 digs.

In the Rutgers-Newark triumph, Nagy added 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double while Straub set up 20 Blazer kills. Hood collected 16 service aces, including six by Lena Bushrod. Jamie Bussey led the defense with 13 digs and, with 28 combined in the two matches, became just the second Blazer ever to reach the 1,000-dig plateau for her career.

Hood wraps up the regular season Wednesday against Capital Athletic Conference rival Wesley College at Gambrill Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Hood will honor its four graduating seniors, Jamie Bussey, Ashley Bryan, Lindsey Nagy and Caroline Woodhams, before the contest.
