Blazers Compete at NCAA Division III Mid-East Cross Country Regional
WAYNESBURG, Pa.--The Hood College men's cross country team placed 35th out of 48 teams while the women also ran 35th out of 48 squads at the 2006 NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional hosted by Waynesburg College.
On the men's side, freshman William Andrews crossed the tape first for the Blazer contingent in a time of 30:45, placing him 184th out of 268 finishers. Faraz Shoai was next at 30:56 while Blake Rust came in at 31:22. Steve Delaney turned in a performance of 32:54, Blair Ames finished in a time of 33:08, Brendan Greenlees clocked in at 33:49 and Tomilayo Komolafe rounded out the Blazer unit at 38:17.
Widener's Macharia Yuot edged out teammate Joe Francisco for top honors in a time of 25:58.
Sophomore Danielle Sgro paced the Hood women's squad in a time of 26:49 to rank her 111th out of 282 competitors. Katie Thomas notched a time of 29:50 while April Penn finished with a time of 30:20. Julia Blickenstaff was the fourth Blazer woman to complete the race in 30:32, Jessica Stanley was close behind at 30:40, Rachel Pectol finished in 31:28 and Sarah Stiles clocked in with a time of 34:11.
Dickinson's Caitlin Bradley captured the women's race in 22:40, 44 seconds ahead of runner-up Laura Paulsen from Johns Hopkins.
The top two squads each competition advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships. Haverford and Alleghany will represent the Mid-East region in the men's race, while Dickinson and Haverford were the top two squads in the women's race.
Hood has completed its 2006 cross country slate. The outdoor track and field team is set to begin the 2007 spring season in early March.
