Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's lacrosse team (7-7, 3-5 CAC) came up on the short end of a 16-3 Capital Athletic Conference decision to the visiting St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (5-8, 4-4 CAC) Thursday at Thomas Athletic Field.
Seniors Dominique Shorter and Kris Miner accounted for Hood's three goals, all unassisted. Shorter's first goal evened the score at one four minutes into the first quarter. The Blazers were held scoreless for nearly 39 minutes until Miner notched his 22nd goal of the year with 2:07 left in the third quarter. Shorter tacked on his 13th of the season with 2:31 left in regulation.
Will Lane started the contest between the pipes and stopped seven shots while allowing eight goals. John Martin took over in the net in the second quarter and finished with six saves.
Randolph Clark won 10 face-offs for Hood while Hector Montoya was credited with three wins in the "X". George Mineff forced four turnovers on defense while Mike Gallion picked up three ground balls.
St. Mary's outshot Hood, 42-16, and scored four in the first quarter, six in the second and three apiece in the third and fourth periods. Dennis Rosson led the way with four goals and two assists and was one of 10 Seahawks to net at least one goal.
As a result of the loss, the Blazers slip to the No. 6 seed in the CAC standings and will travel to third-seeded University of Mary Washington Sunday to take on the Eagles in the opening round of the conference playoffs. The Eagles defeated York College (Pa.), 17-3, earlier today. St. Mary's will travel to York in the other first-round matchup. The top two seeds, Salisbury University and Stevenson University, received first-round byes and will face-off for the CAC regular season title Saturday at Salisbury.
