DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--The Hood College men's basketball team (6-4) started strong but the Embry-Riddle Eagles (9-3) used a 14-3 run midway through the first half and didn't trail again en route to a 68-59 nonconference victory at the Land of Magic Tournament Tuesday.
The Blazers saw their four-game losing skid come to and end while the Eagles stretched their winning streak to six straight.
Hood led by as many as nine in the first period before the Eagles turned a 20-14 deficit into a 28-23 lead in a span of 3:09. A jumper by Hood's Anthony Bennett in the final minute of the stanza cut the margin to 35-30 at halftime.
The Blazers closed to within two points on two occasions, the last at the 14:01 mark on a Justin Stone layup, but Hood was unable to regain the advantage.
Junior Tyler Snoots paced the Blazers with 19 points on 9-of-17 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Brenden Straughn and J'Air Brady also recorded double figures, collecting 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Embry-Riddle's Eric Lorenzi led all scorers with 22 points while David Butler came off the bench to net 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.
The Blazers host their first contest of 2010 Monday, Jan. 4, against Frostburg State University at 8 p.m. at Fort Detrick's Odom Fitness Center.
