Hood's Clay Smith named United Soccer Coaches All-Region

Clay Smith

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Hood College's Clay Smith was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.

He joins former teammate Drew Demich as the only Blazers to earn the honor in program history.

Smith, who was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year and All-MAC Commonwealth First Team, led the conference in goals and points. He finished the season with 12 goals and 26 points. He had a hat trick in the early season win over Marymount (Va.), the first of his four multi-goal matches. In one of his two-goal performances, he scored an overtime game-winner at Eastern Mennonite. Smith scored twice at MAC Commonwealth foes Albright and Lebanon Valley and had an assist against No. 14 Messiah. His goal 21 seconds into the match against Chatham was the fastest goal in school history.

The Blazers went 10-9-2 and advanced to the opening round of the ECAC Championships.
