Riedel second in 1650 freestyle at Diamond City Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Behind a second-place finish by Max Riedel in the 1,650-yard freestyle, the Hood College men's swim team improved one spot to claim seventh place on the final day of the Diamond City Invitational at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.

How it Happened

  • Riedel was just two and a half seconds behind the winner from King's with a time of 17:04.53. 
  • Matthew Ball was sixth in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.02. 
  • Gaby Hernandez-Paese and Andrew Bezmen turned in top 10 finishes in the 200 breaststroke. Hernandez-Paese was eighth in 2:26.02, two places ahead of Bezmen's 2:27.96. 
  • The 400 free relay of Bezmen, Ball, John Foley and Hernandez-Paese was eighth in a time of 3:31.95. 


  • Hood was seventh with 243 points.
  • King's was the team champion with 673.5 points.
