Freshmen Win First Round Matches at MAC Individual Championships

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Hood College's Megan Carter and Skylar Wright won first round matches before falling in the quarterfinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championships at Kirby Park. 

How it Happened

  • Playing at No. 2 singles, Carter snuck Eastern's Lauren Good in a hard-fought three-set match 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-5. Carter moved on to face Francesca Varela-Seri of Wilkes in the quarterfinals. The Blazer freshman forced a third set, but Varela-Seri picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 victory. 
  • Wright's first round match was similar to Carter's. She battled Emily Kabalka of King's and won in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 13-11. Wright dropped her quarterfinal to Carly Dove of Messiah 6-3, 6-3. 
  • Michell Shedd played at No. 1 singles for Hood and fell to Natalie Hoffman of Delaware Valley 6-2, 6-4. 
  • Hood's lone doubles entry of Shedd and Carter pushed Jenna Skove and Kelsi Mentzer of Stevenson before the Mustang duo won 8-6.

  • The tournament concluded the Blazers' fall period.
