Chris Gibeau, who coached swimmers to qualify for four consecutive Olympic Trials, took over as the head swim coach and director of aquatics at Hood College in March 2020.
In 2025, Isiah Brittingham earned All-MAC Second and Third Team respectively in the 100-yard and 200-yard Breaststroke.Â
The 2023-24 campaign included 12 new team records in 7 events.

The men’s squad included four wins and record times both in the fall and spring. At the MAC Championship, three Blazers stood on the podium. Hazen Stowell earned a gold medal in the 500 free and then a bronze in the 200 free.

The women’s squad included four wins and nine new Top 10 times. The team was selected by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America as a Scholar All-America Team for the 2023-24 academic year.
In 2022-23, his men's squad won six dual meets, the most for the Blazers since 2016-17. Hood finished seventh for the second straight year, a seven-spot improvement from when he was named coach. Hazen Stowell earned a pair of All-MAC accolades for the second straight year. The women posted their second straight season at .500 or better, winning five duals,Â
During Gibeau's first full season at the helm in 2021-22, the Hood's men's swimming team ended the season with a 4-6 overall record while going 3-6 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. At the MAC Championships, the men's team placed seventh as Hazen Stowell led the way with two top-three finishes placing him on the All-Conference second and third team. On the women's side, the Blazers finished 6-4 with a 5-4 conference record. Hood placed 12th at the MAC Championships.Â
In his 18th year at Division I UMBC, he has helped lead the Retrievers to 20 conference championships and 60 individual conference champions between the America East Conference and the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association. UMBC has been acknowledged with eight coaching staff of the year awards during his time on deck.
Gibeau coached three-time All-American Emily Escobedo, the Retrievers' first four-year NCAA qualifier. She and two-time qualifier Mohamed Hussein each reached the NCAA Championships under Gibeau's guidance. Escobedo was ranked as high as 12th in the world in 2017 in the 200-meter breaststroke and Hussein represented Egypt in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
A member of the 2017-18 US National Team coaching staff, Gibeau coached swimmers who have reached the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Trials. He coached swimmers to FINA World Championship qualifiers in both 2010 and 2014 and Tonia Papapetrou swam for Cypress at the 2019 World University Games.
With the Retriever Aquatic Club, a USA Swim Club owned by UMBC, he served as the senior head coach for 11 years and has been the financial administrator since 2004.
After serving as an assistant at UMBC for three years, he was the head coach of the Monocacy Aquatic Club, which currently calls Hood's Huntsinger Aquatics Center home. While with MAC, Gibeau had several swimmers achieve NAG Top 16 consideration, as well as a number of Junior National and U.S. Open Qualifiers.
Gibeau spent nine years as a member of the Maryland Swimming Board of Directors, holding multiple positions during that time. He was selected as a Maryland Swimming All-Star Coach by his peers five years in a row and served as Head All-Star Coach for the team that competed in Buffalo, N.Y. in the summer of 2004.
An American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 4 achievement Lifetime Member, Gibeau currently resides in Baltimore, Md.
