Women's Swimming Drops AWCC Opener

The Hood College women's swimming team dropped its home opener and its first Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference meet of the season Saturday against Wells College.

Wells topped the Blazers, 138-97, in Hood's first AWCC meet as the defending league champions. Hood drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the AWCC.

Rachel Hejnal led the Blazers in the dual meet with two top finishes and the Blazers' 200-yard freestyle relay team also placed first.

Hejnal won the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke and Hood's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jennifer Hill, Chelsea MacBride-Gill, C.J. Harvey and Meghan Held won its event.

Hood's Jessica Steindel, Hejnal, Carly Coonce and Jenn Harmon took second in the 200-yard medley relay, losing by just 25-tenths of a second. Harmon also showed well in the 100-yard freestyle with a second place finish and Coonce finished a close second in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Blazers resume their schedule Wednesday night at McDaniel College in a non-conference meet. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m.
