Women's Swimming Starts Strong but Comes Up Short to York, 124-81

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood women's swim team (0-2, 0-2 CAC) won four of the first five events and trailed by a single point at the first break, but the York College (Pa.) Spartans (1-0, 1-0 CAC) emerged victorious in the end, winning 124-81 Saturday at the Hood Aquatics Center.

The 200 medley relay team of Kim Wolfgang, Lenore Brown, Kristen Kucharski and Katie Hitchens set the tone early for the Blazers, touching out the York "A" squad in 2:03.13. Senior Amy Kaufman then won the 1000 free in 11:39.67, Hitchens won the 50 free in 26.41 and Wolfgang bested the field in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.90. But the Blazers won just one more individual event the rest of the way, that by Kaufman in the 500 free (5:44.11).

Hitchens was second in the 100 free (1:00.72), Wolfgang was second in the 200 back (2:23.38) and Brown finished second in the 200 breast (2:49.03).

The 200 free relay squad of Erica Hamor, Ashley Garyn, Leah Chomlek and Kucharski also took second in 1:54.69.

Hood returns to the pool Saturday Nov. 17 hosting the College of Notre Dame (Md.) at 2 p.m. at the Hood Aquatics Center.
