YORK, Pa.--Freshman Chris Nemecek broke the school record in the
100 butterfly Saturday as the Hood College men's swim team (0-1,
0-1 CAC) opened its 2008-09 season at Capital Athletic Conference
rival York College (Pa.) (1-0, 1-0 CAC).
Nemecek won the 100 fly in 55.71, lowering the previous standard
of 56.62 set by Jimmy Shea during the 2005-06 season. He was also
third in the 200 free (1:52.45).
Team captain Matt Haynes placed third in both the 50 free
(22.79) and the 100 back (59.52).
A.J. Smith finished sixth in the 50 free (30.59), fifth in the
100 free (1:12.39) and sixth in the 100 breast (1:28.83).
Thomas Williams took seventh in the 50 free (35.66), sixth in
the 100 free (1:22.96) and seventh in the 100 breast (1:43.09)
Chris Moreland was third in the 200 IM (2:12.39) and fourth in
the 100 breast (1:09.75).
Kyle Atras came in sixth in the 100 fly (1:23.12) and fourth in
the 500 free (7:50.12).
York won the meet by a score of 163-33.
The Blazers return to action Saturday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's
College (Md.) for a tri-meet with the Seahawks and Catholic
University Cardinals at 1 p.m.
