FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's tennis team (4-14, 2-4
CAC) put the skids on a six-match losing streak with a 6-3 Capital
Athletic Conference victory over St. Mary's College (Md.) (11-9,
1-5 CAC) Friday afternoon at the Baker Park Tennis Courts.
Hood's top three singles players all earned straight set
victories after the Blazers registered the first two points of the
match at first and second doubles.
Carter Reitman toppled Jeremy Butanis, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1
spot for his 10th singles win of the season. David Blowe upended
Thomas Joesman, 6-3, 6-0, to improve to 4-3 at second singles and
Mike Hardman ousted Jeff Levy for his seventh singles victory.
Reitman and Hardman teamed up to defeat Butanis and Sam Barton,
8-2, for their team-best fifth doubles win. Blowe and Garrett
Loomer evened their record as a doubles tandem at 2-2 by defeating
Ken Bugent and Levy, 8-5.
The Blazers clinched the No. 5 seed in the CAC tournament with
today's triumph and will travel to fourth-seeded Stevenson
University Saturday for a noon match. The Mustangs got the best of
the Blazers in the regular season, winning 6-3 back on March 20.
