FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's swim team (1-0) won seven
individual events and both relays en route to a 135-41
season-opening win over visiting Davis & Elkins College (0-1)
Saturday afternoon.
Robbie Ennis and Matthew Benoit were both double winners for the
Blazers, who snapped a 10-meet losing streak dating back to the
2008-09 season. Ennis captured the 200 individual medley (2:15.65)
and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.50) while Benoit won top honors in
the 50 free (24.04) and the 100 free (53.56). Other winners for
Hood included Andrew Bodine in the 100 fly (58.55), Ethan Weidman
in the 100 back (1:10.00) and Connor Eliff in the 500 free
(5:50.25).
Hood's 200 medley relay team of Bodine, Tom Riley, Benoit and
Ennis bested the Senator squad by 5.58 seconds in 1:48.93, while
the 200 free relay squad (1:41.34) of Eliff, Carlin Rabie, Lucas
Netter and Weidman touched out the D&E team by 0.43
seconds.
The Blazers make their first road trip of the season Friday,
Nov. 5, when Hood travels to the University of Mary Washington for
a Capital Athletic Conference tri-meet with York College (Pa.) at 6
p.m.
