STEVENSON, Md.--The fifth-seeded Hood College men's tennis team
(5-9) bounced the fourth-seeded Stevenson University Mustangs (5-9)
from the Capital Athletic Conference tournament for the second
consecutive year with a 5-4 triumph in a first round matchup Sunday
afternoon.
Mike Hardman, David Blowe and Andrew Blowe were all winners at
singles and doubles to help the Blazers secure the narrow victory.
Hardman handeled Kevin Stamm at second singles, 6-1, 6-1, while
David Blowe ousted Ben Petasky at the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-0. Andrew
Blowe evened his record at fourth singles to 4-4 with a 6-3, 6-4
win over Shawn Kelley.
Hardman and David Blowe teamed up for just the second time this
season to pick up an 8-6 win at first doubles over Stamm and Ted
Cooke. Andrew Blowe and Carter Reitman also earned a point at
second doubles by defeating Petasky and Kelley, 8-3.
Hood now advances to the semifinal round of the playoffs and
will travel to top-seeded University of Mary Washington early next
week.
