ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College men's tennis team (3-6,
1-2 CAC) halted its four-match losing skid and earned its first
Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 5-4
decision over St. Mary's College (Md.) (10-6, 2-2 CAC) Wednesday
afternoon at the Somerset Tennis Complex.
Despite traveling with only five players, the Blazers took both
contested doubles matches and won three singles matches to record
their first win since Oct. 5.
Mike Hardman and Carter Reitman dispatched Thomas Hoesman and
Joshua Olexa, 8-5, at the top spot and the second doubles duo of
Andrew and David Blowe downed Sam Barton and Kenny Nugent, 8-5.
SMCM earned a point at third doubles via a forfeit.
Hardman rolled over Jeff Levy at second singles, 6-0, 6-1, to
improve to 7-1 in singles action, while Reitman wore down Hoesman
in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.
David Blowe won the clinching singles match and remains
undefeated at the No. 3 position with a come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-1,
6-0 triumph over Barton.
Hood looks to make it two in a row Thursday in a CAC battle with
CAC foe Wesley College at 3:30 p.m. at Baker Park.
