FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's swim team (1-6, 1-4
CAC) captured nine events Saturday in securing their first victory
of the season, 112-56, over the visiting Frostburg State University
Bobcats (1-7, 0-3 CAC) in a Capital Athletic Conference meet at the
Huntsinger Aquatics Center.
Arielle Harding broke a 21-year old school record in the 100
breast with a clocking of 1:10.96, lowering the previous standard
of 1:12.06 by N. Cairns from 1990. Harding also paced the field in
the 200 free (1:09.50) and the 100 free (57.93). Her 100 free time
was also a season-best.
Lacey Creelman and Andrea Haines went 1-2 in the 1000 free,
finishing within five seconds of each other. Haines was also third
in the 500 free (7:05.23).
Dominique Osterman captured third in both the 200 free (3:34.80)
and the 100 back (2:22.65). Kristen Kucharski swam a season-best
and won the 100 back (1:12.02) and came in third in the 50 free
(28.90).
Daniela Mittelkamp was a double-winner and clocked two
season-bests in the 100 fly (1:10.66) and the 500 free
(6:24.09).
Melissa Lapham took top honors and lowered her season-best by
four seconds in the 200 IM (2:33.53) and was second in the 100
breast (1:18.59).
Jennifer Givens came in fourth in the 50 free (28.84,
season-best) and third in the 100 free (1:13.49).
The 200 medley relay team of Kucharski, Lapham, Mittelkamp and
Creelman swam uncontested in a time of 2:11.53 while the 200 free
relay squad of Givens, Haines, Osterman and Creelman finished
second in 2:10.51.
The Blazers look to make it two in a row Saturday hosting
Gallaudet University at 2 p.m.
